Place of Refuge Village

Place of Refuge Village will be a completely self-sufficient village with its own dairy, water, agriculture, textiles, chicken, and beef. We will be providing and creating jobs, vocational training, character training, schools, churches, and homes for the people in Northern Uganda to facilitate in changing the lives of the next generation. With the ending of the war millions of people living in IDP (Internally Displaced Persons) Camps have no place to go. After 20 years of their current living conditions they have acquired no skills to support themselves and/or their families. By first giving and teaching them skills, then relocating them, and continuing education they will be able to sustain jobs and support themselves and their families. Orphans from the IDP Camps and the Banda Ghetto will be incorporated into this village, growing up in loving environments. This will give them a chance for the future.

More Information:

The village will be located about 45 miles west of Kampala and spread over 600 acres. This fertile land will have access to adequate groundwater and will allow for livestock and crops to provide a sustainable food supply. Each of the 300 families resettled to this village will have a four-room dwelling. The dwellings will be arranged in groups of three with each sharing a communal cooking, laundry, shower, and toilet facility (a POD). The village will consist of the housing units, a non-denominational church, a school system (consisting of primary, secondary, and vocational schools), a community center, a health center, and a marketplace. The village will be enclosed to allow for enhanced safety. The goal is to build the community using products that are sustainable for many generations, in essence multiplying the impact that our project can have on these people’s lives.

We are awaiting charitable donations to make additional land purchase. Working with knowledgeable and reputable architects we have completely the design phase.
To make this dream a reality, the estimated cost of the project is $5 million (USD). We are raising all monies through charitable donations given as one-time gifts or recurring payments.
